Active Kids in poLITics is a campaign for my writing for digital media course at Marymount University. We are here to value our youth and promote more politics in the classroom to ensure that our children get a good dose of what politics is like in K-12. Many students in a regular American classroom take anywhere between 3-5 classes worth of history in high school and within those 3-5 course only about 1-2 are on American Government/Politics. This can potentially lead to bias to a child in adult hood to believe in whatever their parents believe in or to dismiss politics as it may not be seen as necessary/important. Here at Active Kids in poLITics we are advocating for change & Education reform. It can all start within the home and be reiterated within our school systems.

As a parent/guardian you can have your child watch the news with you and you can explain what is going on in the world to then on the lines of government. A big way to ensure students are aware of politics is bringing them to the polls with you on other occasions outside of the Presidential election; primary elections are very important and you can help your child understand how people are chosen to be president etc. As for us and the educational system we can host classroom elections promote student government and add more governmental classes in our secondary education course. Always remember please contact your local congress representative to advocate for reform!
